Fresh news from Chiang Mai Immigration. Yesterday I and my husband extended our visa stamps for 30 more days, using the embassy COVID letters. We were done in just one day, stamped till October 26. And no "under consideration" stamps.
*Ukrainian nationality, entered on a Visa-Exempt stamp on 14 March, then went on amnesty.*
Where: Chiang Mai immigration office at Promenada Mall, 2d floor.
Documents *(everything in just ONE copy)*:
* Passport
* Passport copies (first page, page with last visa stamp, departure card)
* TM7
* TM30 slip copy
* Embassy letter (I printed in color, but not sure whether this is necessary)
* Two more forms they will give you at the place (one of them a form acknowledging the overstay penalty)
* ONE photo
* 1900 batt
At the entrance our documents were pre-checked. We received our queue numbers and were asked to come inside to wait for our turn. Then we submitted documents, paid 1900 batt each, photos of us were taken, and 15 minutes later we received our passports back with stamps saying that we can stay in Thailand until October 26.
The whole procedure took us 2 hours. Everything went very smoothly and calmly. The workers were very polite and open to help.
I know that many applicants said that firstly they received "under consideration" stamps, but in our case, it was an actual extension. Also being at immigration I noticed that those who were with US passports had to prepare all the above-mentioned documents in two copies. Have no idea why. Maybe everything depends on the country… Anyway, it is always better to come yourself to immigration and find out what exactly documents you need to prepare.
Hope this info will help.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A Ukrainian couple successfully extended their visa in Chiang Mai Immigration, using embassy COVID letters. The process took 2 hours and required only one copy of several documents including a passport, TM7, and a photo. They received their extensions promptly without any 'under consideration' stamps, suggesting the process can vary based on nationality.
