Hi all, just wanted to share my experience today at Chiang Mai Immigration for anyone curious. I was on a 30 day visa exemption stamp looking for 30 days extension.

I went at 8.30am with copy of passport main page(signed), copy of page with stamp(signed), copy of departure card and one passport photo. Of course I had all the originals and 1900 baht. I filled out the TM7 form there and had my extension by 9.15am. Just to note we did not need the TM30 even though there were quite a few notices saying we did. I'm assuming it was because we were on the exemption. It was a quick and pain free experience so hopefully the info will be of use to others. Obviously this was my own personal experience and could differ for others

best just to ask them. If you never gave them a copy of your passport they definitely didn't do it. The penalty is usually 1,600B. If they didn't say anything about it when you got your extension you are good though, no one is going to check later.

is there a way to find out if they file? And do you know what the penalty to me would be if they check and he hasn't?

The minimum 30 day rental is a possible issue with the Hotel Act or a possible contravention of condominium rules. Either way immigration does not care about that. The issue with whether a TM30 is filed is independent of that, and independent of Airbnb. Two completely different issues.

People on non-immigrant visa have been fined for not having it because their long-term condo landlord (not on Airbnb) didn't file it. Totally legal lease situation, but the issue was the TM30 with immigration. But it seems they may not (always) check it for a tourist extension.

I was there today on the same mission. Got it no problem. I wrote the Airbnb I'm in address, they don't check it right away from what I can tell and it's the landlord's job to file it so I'm not sure we could even get in any trouble. I was stressing about being in one tho as you here they don't like it. But if you book a month it's legal all around from what I understand. They don't like short term

Thanks for the feedback, it's useful for us to know. It's possible that they don't check, or maybe that they only sometimes check. I know they are hardcore about it for non-immigrant extensions (they want the actual paper receipt for that) but I am not sure they are so hard about it for tourist ones. But they do have it on the sign that it should be done.

We asked her and she said to try without it so I'm guessing she didn't file and we didn't stay anywhere else before that on this entry. We were a bit apprehensive when we saw the signs today also so not sure if we were just lucky

Just to clarify- are you sure your Airbnb host did not file a TM30 for you? And did you stay anywhere in Thailand before the Airbnb on this entry like a guesthouse? Just trying to figure out what the situation might be- as they definitely don't want the TM30 receipt, but they do have that sign outside saying one has to have been filed.

Thank you for your update (y)

Just a quick question; what address did you use on the TM.7? By that I mean was it a hotel or a private address?
