What Should I Know About Getting an Extension at Chiang Mai Immigration Without an Embassy Letter?

Field Report: Chiang Mai Immigration.

Went this morning on the last day of my extended visa exemption.

Did NOT have my letter from the British Embassy.

Was issued 20 days "under consideration".

British folks who did have an embassy letter were given the same 20 days.

I would recommend having the letter as they did ask why i didn't have one. Nevertheless, the same result.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A report from a visitor at Chiang Mai Immigration indicates that he received a 20-day extension on his visa exemption, despite not having a letter from the British Embassy. Others with the letter received the same extension. It is advisable to have the embassy letter, as questions were raised about its absence.

Thanx for the update. That means when that 20 days is up you can show up and get the rest of the 30 day extension inked in. (OR at least that is how under consideration stamps usually work).

Glad to see Chiang Mai is issuing the extensions with or without the embassy letter. Hopefully other offices will start doing that as well.

Thanks Tod, that's how i was led to understand the process too. I have to say i was pleasantly surprised with CM. It was well organised, not too busy and relatively quick. Arrived at 6am, out by 10am.

Would have been quicker too, but i had written my application in black ink (criminal i know), so had to redo everything in blue ink.
