How can I extend my 45-day visa exempt period in Chiang Mai, and when will the extension start?

Hi all! We are a UK family of 6 in Chiang Mai. We are staying 12 KMs outside of Chiang Mai city centre.

Our 45 day initial visa exempt period ends on 15th Dec. We intend to extend by another 30 days. Are there forms we can fill in ahead of arrival to the immigration office? If so, how can I get hold of them? Our Air BNB landlord has filled out the TM 30 forms and showed us proof of this so that’s done. If we arrived at the immigration office early (e.g. 12th Dec), would the 30 day extension start from 13th or would they extend from 16th as per our 45 day visa exempt period end date stamp in our passports?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK family in Chiang Mai is seeking guidance on extending their 45-day visa exempt period which ends on December 15. They intend to extend it for an additional 30 days and inquire about pre-filling forms before their visit to the immigration office. They also ask whether visiting early affects the start date of the extension. Community responses suggest that it's best to get the form directly at the immigration office, which varies by location, and that the extension will be added to the existing visa without losing any days if they go early. Additionally, it is advised to obtain proof of the TM30 filing from their landlord.

Ask your landlord for a screenshot or proof of filing the TM30 and print it out as you'll need that as well. Just saying it's done is not enough.

No more TM 6

1. Print out of TM 30 screen shot x 6. .

2. Copies of passport information page -- 1 per family member

3. Copies of entry stamp page -- 1 per family member

4. Passport size recent photo -- 1 per family member

5. 1,900 baht x 6 = 11,400 thb

6. A BLUE ink pen to fill in & sign forms and copies.

7. Masks to wear in the government offices -- 1 for each family member

8. Infinite Patience & a carefree attitude

#easier to get the TR Evisa from home.

These are the "general" requirements for a tourism extension

everything on there seems fine except the TM6 departure card. I don’t recall ever seeing one of these when I entered Thailand. Currently we have no definitive plans to leave Thailand (e.g. no onward travel booked) and we actually intend to stay until April by doing a visa border run in mid Jan.

If you arrived by air after June they have been temporarily suspended. No proof onward travel needed for extensions.

Its added on to your initial entry stamp you do not lose any days going early

Yes, get the form at the IO as different offices use their own versions of the form. I think at Chiang Mai you can extend when you have 45 days of your entry stamp remaining. Your extension will be added to your current stamp so no harm in going early.
