Hi all. This time round (last week) I popped into Thailand on the 30 day visa exempt basis. Is there an optimum time to go to immigration to apply for an extra 30 days? I was thinking of going maybe 10 days out from my current 30 day expiry date. I'm in Chiang Mai.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Chiang Mai, you can apply for a 30-day visa extension at immigration at any point during your initial 30-day stay; however, practices can vary by location. Other areas, like Chonburi, have stricter rules, allowing extensions only within the last 7 days of the initial visa.

I believe CM immigration accepts extension anytime but I know for sure chonburi Jomtien only accepts extension with 7 days left on your first 30day visa exempt

for CM, you can go whenever you want - just make sure you've got a printout of your TM30 along with the other requirements.
