Greetings all.I have just joined this site on the recommendation of a friend.I am seeking some advice but apologies in advance if it’s been discussed many times.I am returning to Thailand in October on a 60 day tourist visa which I hope to change to an O visa based on retirement.I have been told this can be done in Pattaya and is quite straightforward.I would welcome any information or advice from anyone who has been through the process.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is planning to return to Thailand on a 60-day tourist visa and wishes to convert this into a Non-O visa based on retirement while in Pattaya. They are seeking advice on the process. Responses indicate that one can open a Thai bank account, deposit 800,000 baht from abroad, and apply for the Non-O visa at Jomtien Immigration within 15 days of the visa's expiry. The total fee for the application is 2,000 baht, and a yearly extension can be applied for after maintaining the funds in the account for two months.

You show up here on a 60 day tourist visa, you get a thai bank account in your name only opened up, you transfer in from abroad 800K baht and then when you have at least 15 days left on your 60 day entry stamp you go to the Jomtien Immigration office, pay 2000baht and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement.

It will go under consideration for 14 days (which is why you need at least 15 days on your stamp when you apply) and then you go back and get the Non-O visa and a new 90 day stamp inked in

THEN you wait until your funds have been in your bank account for 2 months and go apply for the yearly extension at the Jomtien immigration office for 1900baht. They'll issue that on the spot (there is no under consideration period)

criminal record check is only for O A visa class.

monthly income is more complicated, you need to show the funds for the previous year before you apply for an extension, as well you need to have your embassy provide a letter certifying the income, or a letter saying they don't do income certification. The amount must be at least 65,000 baht per month each and every month and it cannot drop below that amount each month ever. I'm open to that I made a few mistakes in this, if so I'm sure Tod or Benjamin will correct me.
