Hi all. Does anyone have information on getting my degrees, transcripts, and marriage license notarised here in Thailand as a U.S. citizen? My current employer didn't require it and I'm starting a new job in April. They have requested that all be notarised. When I visited the U.S. embassy website, it states that they cannot legally provide this service. I called and they said they could only speak to me if it was an emergency so I sent an email, but I only have 12 days until we fly back to the U.S. to visit family and if I need to get this taken care of here, I need to do it before we leave. I've seen that maybe I can do it while we're back in the U.S.? Thanks so much for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A U.S. citizen is seeking information on notarizing their degrees, transcripts, and marriage license in Thailand for a new job requirement. They found that the U.S. embassy does not provide this service and are under a time constraint before traveling back to the U.S. Some commenters suggest alternatives, including using a local notary public in Pattaya, online notary services for remote notarization, or handling notarization while back in the U.S. The discussion highlights challenges faced by expats regarding document notarization.

You're going to have to post in another group. It's close but not all that thai visa related. There are more than a few posts about this same problem on the inter-web. Sorry.

One potential option is to do it online. It should be much cheaper than doing it at the embassy. WV (out of all places!) made it legal to do it remotely, so it's legal all across the USA.

I guess I'm unsure of what a notary public is validating? I was under the impression they need the embassy to verify my documents, not witness me signing them. I have all original documents with raised seals, but they've stated they need something more.

What a notary public validates (to my understanding) is you legally stating the documents are true and honest to the best of your knowledge. Lying to a public notary is a criminal federal offense, and you can go to jail for a very long time.

There is a notary public next door to immigration in Pattaya

I have gotten something notarized at the us embassy before, but it is a long process( half day at embassy)and cost like 30 or 40 usd per stamp. I would probably go to a bank when back home and safe yourself the trouble.

Oy. Seems like I'm going to have to do it while we're in the US.

Mine was for a document I was sending back to the US. And from what I read the embassy was the only one that would be official in the US

Is a regular notary stamp sufficient? This employer made it seem like it had to be issued by the embassy.
