Greetings, I need to get my degree and transcript notarized apparently in order to get my visa and work permit. I'm already in Thailand and was told this by an administrator at the school which is sponsoring the visa. Anyhow, the US Embassy here doesn't notarize these documents. Do you know anywhere I can go here, or do I need to send these documents back to the USA and where do I send them?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks assistance on how to notarize their degree and transcript in Thailand for visa and work permit requirements since the US Embassy does not offer notarization services. Community members suggest various options, including potential local agencies that provide notarization services as well as the idea of consulting the sponsoring school for guidance. It is highlighted that some immigration offices may not accept locally notarized documents and the need to verify local requirements with the school. Additionally, updates from the US consulate indicate that as of March 2024, Thai Immigration no longer requires certain document authentications from the US.

I recently saw this on the Chiang Mia US Consulate website. Does this include diplomas and transcripts? Since they included a pdf to give immigration with the update I'm guessing it's not widely known ¨Good news! As of March 2024, Thai Immigration no longer requires the authentication of documents issued in the United States at the local, state, or federal level. In addition, self-sworn affidavits for Thai visa purposes will no longer be requested by Thai Immigration officials nationwide. Please use this letter to address issues relating to these changes: Thai Immigration Letter (PDF). ¨

Depending where you are will depend on what immigration and WP office will accept... Some will accept it being notarized here. Some will not and want the thai embassy stamp too.

You need to talk to your school to see what the local immigration and WP office wants. If you get them notarized here and then find out they won't accept it then you've not only wasted time but also money.

Some Thai administration offices don’t accept locally notarized documents. Too many scams . You need to check with your school what is the local policy on this . They should know .

Well they are foreigners themselves. All of them went to the embassy in their countries of origin, but I just can't do that.

the school administrator who will be the ones dealing with your WP and Visa are all foreigners?

Regardless unless it's changed, CW Immigration (Bangkok) will not accept locally notarised degrees unless it's from your embassy, and they also require the Thai embassy stamp from the country of origin when being notarised in the origin country.

I did this for china WHILE IN Thailand. In my case it was from South Africa. There are agencies that do sworn translators and notarize them. And handle the embassy side of things. You have to look online Google. It's simple. You send them, you pay and they give the internationally accredited acceptation and stamps. Cant recall the name but Google will sort you out

If this is truly needed. The US Embassy will no longer certify diplomas or transcripts. The only legal way to do this is fly back to the US and only the university that issued them can do this. SOME universities will do this if you mail them. But you need to check.

I don't want to call them visa agents. But they did my marriage Translation stuff. Either they can or know someone who can. Their offices are by all the embassies

Can they notarize documents quickly?

I don't think they do in their office but they got all my stuff notarized. I just dropped everything off with them. A very short time later I received a hand delivered envelope with everything I needed. They also can advise with agents as well

What is the name of this company?

I’m by no means an expert on this, but as recently as a year ago I know of someone who was able to get the embassy to issue a sworn affidavit that the documents were real and then he took the affidavit and documents to immigration. This was enough to satisfy them. But if your school is sponsoring the visa, do they not have someone to guide you through the proper steps? Otherwise the documents have to go through a bit of a process in the US, but there are companies that will mail them there for you and make sure everything is done correctly.

Is this the embassy of your country of origin? So for me the US Embassy? I could try to get the affadavit and really hope it works.

And yes the school is sponsoring the visa, but they all had to go through the visa thing themselves as they are mostly from other Asian countries. However, I got this job through an agency, and the agency did not prepare me for anything, otherwise I could have had my docs in order before I got here. The school told me I'd have to mail my docs back to the US, but I'm really hoping for a quick solution here.

the person I knew did the affidavit at the US embassy. Here’s a link about it. I think with some googling about degrees and affidavits you might be able to find some more specific info. Good luck!
