I am Australian Just wondering how folks transferred their $800000 THB to a Thai Bank? Issues with Ozzie banks moving that amount?
Answer summary
Transferring 800,000 THB to a Thai bank from Australia can be done efficiently using various money transfer services like Wise, XE Money, and Remitly. Many users recommend Wise for its low fees and good exchange rates, but it's important to be aware of limits set by banks. Some have successfully transferred large sums by splitting the amount into smaller transfers if needed, while others advise using cash or ensuring proper documentation for bank transfers. Users cautioned about potential issues with Australian banks regarding large transfers, so it's best to check limits and fees beforehand.

Bank transfers are fine as long as it’s to yourself and you say what it’s for. I’ve transferred myself large sums (tens of thousands AUD)from Australia for medical care and car purchase no problems.

Just use XE money to transfer. Free to transfer from your bank to xE. they transfer it to your Thai bank. Thai bank may take a fee depending on bank. When I transfer to my wife, money is the account in a few hours. Has a good transfer rate to. Safe and easy once you set it up. Just downloaded the XE app.

WISE have held $20,000 USD of mine while transferring it to AUD and said they can't transfer the return to my bank due to Wise technical difficulties. The location of the money is unknown and I'm not receiving answers.

Be careful with your transfers!

I recommend Torfx or Xe.

is an anti money laundering limit and is related to cash either across a border or into or out of a bank account. It has nothing to do with the ATO. I know because I brought 50K USD into Australia in cash and only had to fill out a form.

12 months ago did two 800k Thb transfers one after the other on the same day from our Aust bank joint account to our two individual Thai bank accounts using Wise. No dramas other than we had to temporarily raise our daily transaction limit with our Aust bank beforehand......

Dave Owen it is the best way. It gives you the documentation to take the amount out of Thailand as lump sum, if you decide to leave. With using Wise you have to take it out a little at a time, as you can't do a single transfer for that amount.

WISE easy, set up an Australian account inside WISE, transfer the funds like you would Australian bank to Australian bank, convert the funds within WISE to Thai Baht, then send to your Thai bank from WISE.
