Just out of interest, is anyone having issues getting money transferred to Thailand from their Wise account?

I wanted to make sure that I had some cash when I landed in Thailand, so tried to send 35,000 Baht to my partner so that she could take the cash from an ATM.

I have found that this is how I get the best exchange rate, particularly as there are no Bureau de Change anywhere close to where my partner lives.

I could not send the 35,000 Baht and Ididtryseveraltimes, it kept getting cancelled, but I did manage to send 25,000, so it looks like there is a limit on it, which is no good to me as I want to send 800,000 for my retirement in the next couple of days.

In the past I have sent over 100,000 to my partners account without any problems, so just wondering if anybody knows of any changes that have happened lately.

Wise bank say that it is SCB that are refusing the transfer so I need to get a reason code, SCB Head Office say that they need a Swift Code and reason for the cancelled transfer before they can investigate.

I don't know what a Swift code is or how to get one, I just tried to do the transfer the way I normally do.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give. X
Answer summary
Users are experiencing difficulties transferring larger sums of money to Thailand via Wise, with reports of transfer cancellations, especially with amounts over 35,000 Baht. Some mention that limits may exist, while others successfully transferred significant amounts without issues. A few users suggest that Wise may have made changes recently affecting transfers, and confusion about needing a SWIFT code arises. Many users share alternative methods or experiences to aid in transferring funds seamlessly.

Can't help you with the Wise question but regarding best exchange rates and Bureau De Change...........you arrive at Suvarnabhumi right? Go down to the basement and head towards the rail link. There you will find kiosks for SuperRich, HappyRich and a few other exchanges all giving much better rates than the ones upstairs. There's even a Kasikorn Bank kiosk down there that usually matches the independent's rates. Quite how they have the cheek to offer 3 - 5 baht more than the Kasikorn branches upstairs, I know not. Its borderline deception in my book.

Wise works fine, Must mark the transaction purpose as "long term stay" the transaction if marks this way could take a day or so but will show on the bank statement as a international transfer.

If not doing for long term stay the transaction time is quick as it is a local transfer through their Thai affilliates.

Just curious. If you've already got your non-O, you should have set up your bank account, then you transfer your money inbso you can apply for 12 month extension based on retirement. So why are you sending the money to someone else's account?

There is no SWIFT code involved, that’s just a red herring. Wise transfer it from their Thai bank to yours (or your partner’s) as a local transfer.

Wise definitely made changes recently. I used to have two different accounts with my us bank connected. Now is only one, and no way to see account number for source bank, used to at least give last 4 digits. They told me it was for my security that i can't see it. Thier customer service is rather awful

I sent 800,000 from my Fidelity account to my Kasikorn account and sending monthly amounts of 30,000 since and 495,000 to buy my car, and 120,000 bhat recently. No wire transaction fees with Fidelity or ATM fees. I get it in 2 days normally. Yes, I use Kasikorn banks swift code. I called Fidelity and they walked me through the first one. Very easy.

I transfer all the time, using Wise to transfer bank to bank. I've found the later in the week it is, the less I can transfer instantly. For example, I can transfer 800K baht on Monday and it is either instant or almost instant. If I try on Thursday, I'll get a message saying it'll hit my bank account here in 5-7 days. But if I break it into 4 transfers of 200K each, they transfer instantly.

Ian Hojo In my understanding, once you arrived, get a mobile sim card under your passport number and open it for use (this is also for long term stay verification purposes) and get the actual accommodation lease contract sorted out, you can then use your long term lease document accompanied with a copy each of house registry and landlord's ID card (both certified true copy), and a copy of respective TM document (long term residency register that you did online within 24 hrs from long term lease signing), go to the bank branch where you think best fits your situation, request to open an account "for retirement" (Actual passport with biodata page and visa page, your mobile phone, accompanied home country driver's license if you have (just in case), copy of TM resident register you did online, reference copy of your long term lease (attached with its accompanied documents) on the accommodation for your retirement, and work out how you can send money to that new account of yours once the bank completes your account opening. If Wise or Fidelity can do it, then be sure to obtain a copy of transfer slip for each transaction. If you do the SWIFT or EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) that goes through Baht Net (and may take a few days), you will definitely get a transfer slip in your email although the fees might be more than other services. Also send 20,000 baht more in case some of the money gets deducted as additional fees. If you would like to do the EFT, ask your bank branch for the Swift Code once you get your new passbook. The bank teller will write on on the first page of your passbook. You will later also need to submit a copy of each transfer slip to extend your visa for the first time so what I explained above is the actual process you must go through. As a matter of fact, don't send your money for retirement to other people's account as doing that will not qualify you for the retirement visa.

Swift is normally a bank to bank transfer, if you look on your wise receipt it will have more information but the normal Wise limit to SCB is 1.5 million baht. Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn have a 2 million baht limit. Are you transferring from bank to bank via Wise or from a pot held in Wise?

John is correct. Use Wise to transfer from your home bank account to the Thai account. You can transfer a fixed number of Baht you want with no issues.

things have changed with Wise since it was officially recognised as a financial service provider in Thailand. If you hold thai baht in Wise you might have issues depending on where your Wise account is registered. But if you just set up a transfer in Wise to your Thai bank from your UK bank (rather than using a pot held in Wise) that should work fine

He doesn’t need the code to do a transfer from Wise to a Thai bank account. It’s only for international transfers through the SWIFT system.
