This is a report on a Covid-19 extension at Chiang Mai Immigration.
USA passport
entered the country 22 December 2021 on CR30 visa exemption
current visa extension through 19 June 2022
Today I went to extend under the May 24 expiry knowing it had been extended.
Chiang Mai Immigration would extend but advised me they could only extend for 60 days from TODAY's DATE.
My prior extensions had been in Chiang Rai and they consistently added 60 days from the end of my existing visa.
I opted not to extend and get some advice here. Is this consistent with the CM Immigration office position or was the officer incorrect?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a recent experience at Chiang Mai Immigration regarding a Covid-19 visa extension, highlighting a discrepancy in policies where extensions were only granted for 60 days from the application date rather than being added to the previous visa's expiration. Other commenters shared similar experiences and variations in extension policies across different immigration offices, indicating a lack of consistency in these decisions.
, Does "the end of May" mean this week? Or last year?
And, does that "added to the date of application" mean the extension started on the day of the application or added to the existing stamp (future date from the date of application)?
I took Passport pages, TM-6, TM-30 and a photo. They do ask why you're requesting the extension. There are still places that are closed. You may want to consider them for your next destination and reflect that decision on your application.
We recently got reports that some Immigration offices are issuing Covid extensions starting the day of application, not being added even if it's the second or later extension. While others issue adding to the current one as long as it's the same reason for an extension.
This started in this current program if I remember right.
It's not that surprising, but you have to check with them again if you want.
