Does sponsorship letter work?

My dad can show the funds and make sponsorship letter, but all the visa agents I ask says I need to have the funds in my own account, and that sponsorship letter doesn't work. I am from Denmark and currently in Thailand.

So im just wondering what your experience is with sponsorship letter, if and how it works.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The effectiveness of a sponsorship letter in obtaining a Thai visa is limited. Most visa agents insist that applicants need to have the funds in their own accounts rather than relying on a sponsorship letter from a parent or family member. While some commenters note instances where sponsorship letters worked for dependents of primary visa holders, such as spouses and children, the general consensus is that they are not sufficient for independent visa applications. For better chances of approval, applicants are advised to show their own funds in their accounts for at least two to three months along with supporting documentation.

Borrow money from your dad, have the money in your account for 2 statements and apply with 3-6 months bank statements, any income you earn, a cover letter (explaining your financial position, why you want to be in Thailand, that you won’t work in Thailand etc). Then get a sponsorship letter from your dad saying he’ll cover any of your financial needs and 3 months of his bank statements.

My partner had the money for 2.5months and I wrote him a letter. Our application in Hanoi:

One person just posted she applied in Jakarta she had the funds only in 2 statements and was approved. Search the group about this. If you can demonstrate a strong position it’s not mandatory for exactly 3 months

I'm a sponsor for my son who is currently in thailand on DTV. He got his visa from the thaiembassy in copenhagen. I wrote 3 lines on the application that I was his sponser and copied my bankaccount, but that is 9 month ago.

Get them to put it in your bank for three months then you meet criteria for the dtv visa

not for hcmc. They specifically said no sponsor accounts. nowadays many consulates are very critical of lump sum deposits because they dont want people to park temporary funds for this purpose.

I've only seen one person in this group post that it worked for them (their mother sponsored). However, more often than not it gets rejected.

Your Dad having funds won’t work for your application. You need your own funds to apply.

If you have a spouse or kids then you can provide a sponsorship letter for their application.

You can ask by sending email to the embassy you plan to apply. I once asked and they replied it doesn’t work.

It works for spouse and for kids. All others are very, very limited cases

when you say spouse and kids, do you mean generally or in situations where one has a DTV and is sponsoring his/her spouse and kids to also have DTVs?

@John ******
Yes, only dependents for primary DTV holder.
