TLDR : Answer Summary
When extending a 1st year spouse visa in Thailand, you must purchase a new multiple re-entry permit to align with your new extension. Initially, you receive a 30-day under consideration stamp upon applying for the extension, during which a re-entry permit should not be purchased, as it will only be valid for those 30 days. It is advisable to wait until the extension is confirmed and inked into your passport before obtaining a new re-entry permit, which will then be valid for the entire duration of your new extension.

IF you have a year "extension of stay" based on marriage to a thai that you got from the immigration office here AND a multiple re-entry permit when you get the new year extension you need to BUY a new re-entry permit

remember though marriage visas get a 30 day under consideration stamp when you apply for a new year extension

DO NOT buy the re-entry permit then because it will only be good for those 30 days, wait until you go back to get the year extension inked in to buy one and it will be good for the whole year the extension is valid for

unless you intend to leave the country and return within the under consideration period, as your current re-entry permit is no longer valid in that period, and you end up paying twice to cover the existing extension.
