Does a DTV activate automatically upon entry to Thailand or can I delay switching until my Non-O extension ends?

I have another 4.5 months on my existing Non O extension, however I will be applying for a DTV in the UK next month as it’s the only time I will be in the UK before my extension lapses.

Does my DTV automatically activate upon my next entry into Thailand or could I just hold off switching to DTV until April 26 after successfully receiving approval for a DTV in Dec 25

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the activation of a DTV visa upon entering Thailand and whether it can be delayed until their current Non O extension expires. Comments clarify that the DTV visa activates upon issuance, and that the user could apply for it from a neighboring country instead of returning to the UK.

You don't have to go "home" to apply for a DTV, it can be done in any neighbouring country.

The DTV is active from date of issue. If issued in Dec and you travel April, you have lost 4 months of it. London approves DTVS fairly quickly often within 7 business days. You could wait until April to apply/after your current visa ends.
