Hi, my extension of visa is valid till January 2019 but my work permit is expiring at the end of may 2018. Do I have to extend my work permit only or do I have to extend my visa again after the work permit.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You only need to renew your work permit first as it is necessary to maintain your legal status in Thailand. Once your work permit expires, your visa extension based on employment will also become invalid. You can renew your visa later, as it is valid until January 2019.

Once your work permit expires, so does your extension of stay based on employment. Your employer needs to extend your work permit or you will fall into overstay country.

Yes, but if you don't extend it, you will be on overstay.

@jamal khan yes u need the same docs from your employer to renew and yes u need to renew ur work permit first. Visa u can do later in Jan 2019. Usually it takes 2, 3 days to renew but sometimes they do extend on a same day also.
