Can I use my DTV visa with a renewed passport in my married name?

I have a DTV Visa. Approved until 2029 even though my passport expires in 2026.

I’ve also just got married and would like to update my passport to my married name when I renew it.

So I’m wondering:

1. Is the visa transferable to a renewed passport?

2. Is the visa usable if I update my married name on my passport (provided I travel with my old passport and a copy of my marriage certificate?)

TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the implications of updating their passport after obtaining a DTV Visa, specifically the transferability of the visa to a renewed passport and the usability of the visa with a married name. Commenters clarified that visas are not transferable to renewed passports, but using the visa with an updated married name is permissible when traveling with the old passport and a copy of the marriage certificate.

NO visas aren't "transferred"

I am double checking because I was told by Thailand Consulate Penang that I must report to immigration department upon using new passport.

you need to file a new TM30 showing you're registered as staying where ever it is you stay on the new passport number at the immigration office but there's no "report to immigrations" requirement other than the TM30 and the 90 day reporting.

They don't care you switched passports,

When you get back to Thailand, I would definitely go to immigration and ask again at the information counter. They know 100% how the process works. You're not the first who has und will have this problem

as I said IF you have a sticker visa, you carry BOTH passports for the duration of the visa 😮

Rubber band the old and new one together 🙂 Your visa is still valid in the old passport and you will be entering / exiting on the new one. No one transfers VISAS they stay in what ever passport they're issued in (whether it's valid or not)

If you have a "sticker visa" <- meaning you went to a consulate and applied for the visa and they stuck a sticker in your passport that IS the visa, you have to carry both passports for the duration the visa is valid for (so just rubber band them together

Where as

If you have an "eVisa" <- a PDF file that was emailed to you because you applied online for the visa thru a consulate it goes like this

- IF you get a new passport IN thailand while you're here on a 180 day entry stamp in the old one you show BOTH passports when you stamp out of the country and they'll stamp you out on the new one and note you entered on the old one

However

-IF you get a new passport OUTSIDE thailand, you need the copies of the data page of the old one and your last set of entry/exit stamps on the DTV along with PDF print out when you stamp back in .. (Just staple the data page/entry-exit stamp copies from the old passport to the DTV print out and use the new passport to enter exit from then on

So if I travel with my old passport and marriage certificate I will be ok to travel on my new passport even though the passport number is different?
