Hello, just trying to find out about the cost of insurance in Thailand, for Life, Medical and Motoring, can anyone shed some light?

Does funeral insurance actually exist, as it does in the UK and if not, what would the typical cost be to cover the eventuality, be it cremation or other?

Many thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses various types of insurance costs in Thailand, including life, medical, motor, and funeral insurance. It is noted that funeral insurance may not be a standard offering in Thailand as it is in the UK, and typical funeral costs may range from 80,000 to 100,000 baht, with some claiming it can be managed for as little as 14,000 baht. Motor insurance costs vary, with some participants reporting prices around 8,000 to 20,000 baht yearly, depending on the vehicle and driver history. The importance of age and vehicle value for life and medical insurance costs is emphasized.

I pay 8000 BAHT per year for car insurance, I only pay for medical for the time I visit as I don't reside permanently, but I leave the car at the family house.

I know a farangs wife who manage the funeral on about 14,000 baht. There was no gathering afterwards.

Thanks for that, so it would appear that 80-100k is about the cost for everything and I believe no red tape from the government?

Motor insurance starts from scratch when you change companies.

I know in the villages the Thai's pay a monthly insurance for funerals but not sure if it applies to farangs.

My insurance fore a newish Ford ranger is about 15,000.

Correct about funerals, but only if you are married with a Thai the community pays a part of the funeral. Car or motorbike insurances are very cheap, but remember they cover way less as expected. Insurances for health depends on the age in a range from normal, expensive and way to expensive!

That is a strange comment too make, considering someone will have to pay the bill and this just doesn`t apply for me.

I'm not going to shell out thousands to pay for a funeral. Better to just give the money to my son and let the country where I die bury me

Not heard of funeral insurance here. It possibly exists. I’ll let others answers if they know. Life or medical or car insurance is so hard to answer without knowing more info. Your age (for life and medical) will be an important factor. The cars value will be the deciding point. As a guesstimate you’d probably be looking around 20k for a fairly modest modern car. For medical or life then you’d have to look around for the brokers and what sort of cover you need and what packages they have.
