TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies that while applying for a Tourist Visa (TR), it is not necessary for your friends to fully pay for accommodation in advance. Instead, a written invitation letter from you, confirming their stay at your house, should be adequate. However, for the Special Tourist Visa (STV), they will need to provide proof of paid accommodation for their entire stay. Overall, it's best for them to check the specific requirements with the Thai embassy in their country.

The Tourist visa (TR) does not need fully paid up accommodation after doing their ASQ. A letter inviting them to stay at your house should suffice. The Special Tourist Visa (STV) that gives you 90 days (edited my typo), extendable twice requires paid up accommodation for the entire stay.

ah I believe this depends on the country you are applying from - I applied from Singapore TR Visa, and the consulate did specify clearly through email communications that I needed a fully paid accommodation 🧐

Yes it is probably country dependent. There are rules for each embassy to follow, but most set up their own interpretations of them. The paid up accommodation rule (of the STV and in your case the TR) is just stupid. What β€œtourist” knows where they want to stay exactly on set dates. Most want to travel the country and see a wide variety of sights. Cities, beaches, etc, etc. For sure ask them for proof of the first few days (after ASQ) but insisting on fully paid up accommodation is madness.

If this is Tourist Visa, from my experience (just arrived in BKK last week), yes they need to show a paid confirmation of a booking accommodation for the entire period of their stay, even if they are staying at your house.

it's best to check the embassy you are at, I believe this still depends on the country you are applying from.
