Trying to apply for a 90-day STV online and they want copies of flight details and copies of health insurance and hotel bookings BEFORE they give me the Visa? Does anyone really pay in advance?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Many users confirmed that to apply for a 90-day Special Tourist Visa (STV) in Thailand, applicants usually need to provide evidence of flight details, health insurance, and hotel bookings. While some reported successfully obtaining the visa without fully confirmed flights and hotels, most noted that health insurance should be paid for in advance. Additionally, book accommodations with free cancellation options to mitigate potential losses from changes.

I highly not recommend getting an STV. The STV is for a very specific niche tourist. I recommend getting a 60 day tourist visa or entering on visa except

I can stay for a total of 6 months on an STV

no, on an STV you can stay for 9 months, however you will need hotel room pre booked and pre paid.

You should not have to do anything until you get your COE once you get your silly you have 15 days

I think it's much easier now, if you own a yaht. You should consider buy a yaht. Imagine the money you'll save on ASQ.

Also heard 2 xs now of a cheap but reliable international insurance company out of US that now covers Thailand & was accepted by both the applicants submitting...

Info attached

It’s only 45 day coverage but also only $40 & covers 100k including hospitalization

So I have been planning the best way back for months of new year & reading/ watching/ researching & also messaging bunch of people who have done it successfully

& here’s latest I’ve CONFIRMED from 3 different unbiased & non related sources(1 from rep. Of MOE in Thailand & another from a guy I talked to personally)

You don’t have to apply for TV or STV from your current locations embassy, you can just get rest of paperwork done online & then apply for COE w/ rest of requirements

Instead you can enter on Visa exemption & then apply for extension basically giving you up to 90 days initially!?!

Can anyone here verify /confirm that you have done this or it is possible?

My boyfriend from USA came to Thailand in December 18th, 2020. What he has done was :

1) Booked round trip flights

2) got Covid insurance (I’m an insurance agent I did this process for him and get confirmation paper within a day)

3) booked the hotel (direct to the hotel) and got hotel confirmation

4) apply for visa and coe at the same time. (In November 2020).

5) send all paper and passport to the embassy/consulate.

6) he got visa back and got coe though email

7) rt-PCR Covid test and fit to fly before departure time 72 hrs.

8 ) arrived Thailand safely, went through custom and the hotel picked him up from the airport.

The process shouldn’t be too much different except for visa and coe website, American has it owned website from America embassies.

I hope everything going smoothly for you!

A little bit confused... what I think is correct?

1) If the flight was cancelled but already booked a hotel, so I will lose money for hotel or my booking can be postponed and check-in on arrival?

Because that is damn difficult to make it
Chuengamon *********
@Nikita *******
you wouldn’t lose money for the hotel. You could changed checkin date by sending them text or email as soon as you know you flight canceled. It would be fine.

Yes they do pay in advance here’s a list of things to do

Give up and go somewhere else till it’s all over

It is only when you apply for the CoE in a separate online system that you need to show evidence of confirmed flight and ASQ hotel

I think you’ll have to mail your passport to the Embassy in London just like I did. Other members of this forum may be able to comment if they were in similar position as yourself. The CoE is emailed. I obtained health cover online from Tune, a Thai insurer. Cost is B8k for 90 days and B20k for 180. Good luck with your application.
Phillip *******
This was my experience as a U.K. citizen applying through the Thai Embassy in London which provided speedy turnaround

I'm a UK citizen but applying from Spain. It also says to be collected from (wherever) I'm sure they will just email it though right? Thanks for the info I am going to screenshot and attach all the stuff they asked for like you said including health who did you use for that if you don't mind me asking
Phillip *******
I have just entered Thailand with STV and have written up my experience. All I can confirm to you is that I successfully obtained the visa without confirmed hotel and flight. I simply attached my intended hotel stay and indicative flight. The only thing I paid for upfront was the insurance policy.
Emma *******
Hi im in the same situation just wondering what you did where it says flight number for the visa if you hadn't booked the flight yet .. thank you !
Phillip *******
@Emma ******
I attached an indicative plan, print out from Expedia with the flights I intended to take.
Emma *******
@Phillip ******
but it asks for confirmation at the end of the process ?
Phillip *******
@Emma ******
for the visa issuance I attached indicative flights, for the CoE issuance I attached the confirmation.
Edna *******
@Phillip ******
speaking of insurance, witch did you choose and why? There are so many to choose from.
Phillip *******
@Edna ******
I chose a policy from Tune, a Thai insurance company. for their “Luma Pass” which costs B8k for 90 days and B20k for 180 days
Steven *****
@Phillip ******
Thank you, just did the same.
Edna *******
@Phillip ******
thank you.
Phillip *******
Could make the application online for immediate approval, payment and issuance of the policy docx which are required to start the whole process.
Phillip *******
There are others that I’ve seen mentioned and it’ll be upto you to do the research and make the final choice. All I can say is that my experience was absolutely fine.
Steve *******
I think you have to for the STV.
David *******
The hotel will send you a confirmation of your booking, however, your flights and insurance you will have to pay for in advance!
