Hi all, I have renewed my passport, so now I have both an old passport and a new one.
When I re-enter Thailand, if I show both passports to the immigration officer,
do I still need to go to the immigration office again to update or renew my visa?
Or is it okay to enter and exit Thailand just by carrying both passports without doing anything else?
Please share your experiences.
Thanks in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
When re-entering Thailand with both an old and a new passport, it is sufficient to present both to the immigration officer. Your visa is linked to the passport number in the old passport, so you must show it, but the entry stamp will be placed in the new passport. You should carry both passports while in Thailand. While some immigration offices may allow a notation regarding the old passport number in the new one, ensuring to have both is the best practice to avoid any entry issues.
Yes, you show both passports. Your visa has a passport number on it, so they want to see the passport that corresponds with your visa. But then since that passport is no longer valid, they will put your entry stamp into the new passport.
You don't need to do anything besides check to make sure you got the correct stamp before you leave the airport. Continue to carry both passports for the remainder of your DTV and you shouldn't have any issues.
Some immigration offices might be willing to put a notation in your new passport that references your old passport number, but even with that it's not a guarantee for entry. The only sure way is to keep both passports.
