I am flying to Vientiane for a tourist visa. I am flying back and landing at Don Mueng airport. Have they been asking for proof of funds 20,000 baht & onward ticket at Don Mueng?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement to show proof of funds (20,000 baht) and an onward ticket upon landing at Don Mueng airport may vary based on your visa history. Several users reported no issues returning from Vientiane; however, those with a history of back-to-back tourist visas may be more likely to be asked for such documentation. It's advisable to carry at least 20,000 baht and proof of onward travel just in case.

I appreciat the info shared in this group so much. I always feel obligated to report the outcome. I made it to Laos with no problems flying out of Don Meung (US Passport). As usual the visa was issued without any hassle. I especially appreciated the "fast lane" that they have established for those that were not with a service. Flying back was no issue. I was never asked for proof of funds, onward ticket, questioned about musltiple tourist visas or anything else. The immigration officer actually said nothing, merely gave me my stamp and sent me on. Thanks for sharing your info and experiences here folks.

Whether you get asked by passport control for proof of funds, proof of onward travel or proof of a hotel booking totally depends on your visa history to thailand. IF you're living here on back-2-back visa exempt or tourist visa entries you have a much higher chance of getting asked for at least proof of funds.

If you don't have an extensive history like that you should be okay.

I'd say at the very least HAVE the 20K baht (or the equivalent) with you just in case you're asked. because if you're going to be asked for anything it'll be proof of funds

Just show them a screenshot of your bank statement... if your entering for 60 days with less than 20k baht in your bank your in trouble.

Okay, let's get this sorted. While it is true the immigration law from the 70's states that visa exempt or visa on arrival people need to show 10K baht (or the equivalent) in cash BOTH the officers at the southern borders AND the officers at tghe international airports in Bangkok have been asking for 20K baht (or the equivalent) in cash for proof of funds when entering visa exempt or visa on arrival at those locations.

I only have this old picture of a sign at a land border, but be welcome to show the sign at Ranong.

David Hallgren IF that is what it says for exempt entries, then yes

he’s going to Laos from Thailand so take it with you. It’s not very difficult lol

@Lewis *******
He is coming from Laos, last thing he wants is 20k in Kip, also immigration would not accept it either as they know you can't exchange it here.

@Lloyd *******
well just get 20k out of cash machine before you travel to be on the safe side.
Lloyd ********
Immigration want to see cash, consulates want to see bank accounts.

@Maxwell ******
, after you get your visa, cross into Thailand by land and go to Udon Thani and fly back from there.

Except my ticket is already purchased

Seeing as the OP is working, a Non-B and work permit would be a better option.
