Hi all, thanks for adding me here. Tomorrow I'm about to apply for 60 days visa in Vientiane. Do I really need to have an exit ticket from Thailand or can get away without? Any good advices before applying? It's my first visa run. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the necessity of having a return or onward travel ticket when applying for a 60-day Thai visa in Vientiane. Experiences shared by multiple users suggest that while it is generally not enforced, it is advisable to have a return ticket or proof of onward travel just in case. Many stated they successfully obtained their visa without presenting a ticket. Users also noted that the Vientiane Thai embassy is considered one of the easiest places for visa acquisition, with minimal questioning.

The Topic has run it's course. Comments off. There are professional companies that do such runs from Phuket to Malaysia. From Samui to Penang. From Pattaya to Laos. From Bangkok to Laos and from Chiang Mai to Laos.

Thanks guys for all replies! So I got a visa and I didn't have to show return ticket. It went really fast. I'm just surprised I've got visa valid till November 6th. Im pretty sure it should be for 60 days not 90.

The problem is with all the information around which are against each other. Vientiane english Thai embassy website version is in Thai. Also please don't forget that with the time and experience many things are became obvious and silly. Have a great day.

The visa is valid for 90 days, with other words you have 90 days time to use the Visa for entering Thailand. On entering Thailand you get 60 days admitted to stay.

If you're entering the country at the Nong Khai land border you don't need to show anything but your passport. That is probably the easiest to deal with land crossing in thailand.

Thanks guys, good to know your experience. So, to be most successful best is to have return ticked. BTW anyone happy for beer on a next sat in Bangkok ?

Chris, how do you jump to the back of the queue when the officer has your passport already? Seems like an awkward and suspicious thing to do.

Vientiane is the easiest Thai ambassador to get your 60 days tourist visa , I did 7 the last 2 years without any question ! You don't need to buy a ticket !

it is very rarely enforced to show a return ticket at the border but just bear in mind they can request one at their pleasure anytime. If it were me, i'd not bother and if they ask you, just jump to the back of the queue and buy one on your phone ready to show. (chances are if its a different officer he wont even ask you that time)

. He's not contradicting himself. The requirements for an SETV from from a Consulate/Embassy are not always the same from immigration to enter the country.

No you do NOT have to buy a return ticket/onward travel ticket. I did my SETV in Vientiane 2 weeks ago with no questions asked at the embassy. You could possibly be asked as you enter Thailand to show 3 things,

k cash, Onward travel ticket and proof of accommodation. This has been requested from people that have a few Thai visas already in their passports. If you have a few Single Entry Thailand visa (SETV) then I would recommend having 20k with you. You can "book" an onward travel ticket for B600 if you want to have all the required paperwork if they request it :-)
