TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a 1-year extension for a retirement visa in Thailand (specifically a Non-O Visa), you do not need to show proof of international health insurance. One commenter clarified that if there was no health insurance requirement during the initial visa application, there won't be one for the extension either. However, the specifics may vary if one is applying for a different type of visa.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

As you're on a Non-O based on being over 50 there is no insurance requirement when you apply for an extension inside Thailand. Now you just need to see if your embassy in Bangkok will provide you with an income affidavit and if your thai immigration office will accept it, or whether you need to find 800k baht to put in your bank. Remember the latter needs to be there 2 full calendar months before applying for an extension

It was quick and easy for me, too, without an agent. Only 2 hours and I was out of there for 1900 baht. 👍🏼

I'm going the 65k income route. No 2 month wait. Apparently can be a headache with immigration though. Depends. I dont want ifs. Even with the letter from my embassy. I'll support the lovely agent who was recommended. She's been wonderful support already.

if you're using an agent you won't really be going any route. What you will be doing is paying an agent to circumvent the requirements for an extension of stay. Which means you will most likely be stuck using that agent for the foreseeable future

If you didn’t have to prove a mandatory health insurance when you applied for your visa, there’s no mandatory health insurance requirement for the coming extension of stays either.

I remember you applied in Malaysia where there in fact is a health insurance requirement also for the Non O visa. Thailand don’t have such requirement for your coming extensions in the future.

Depends if it is an extension on a non-o or a non-oa I believe.
