I have a retirement visa and multi reentry. When returning to Thailand, will I need to show proof of health insurance coverage? I have international health insurance from an American based company. Will that be acceptable?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The need for health insurance proof when returning to Thailand depends on the type of retirement visa you hold. If you have a Non-O visa as a retiree with a one-year extension of stay and a multiple re-entry permit, you typically do not need to show health insurance. However, if you have an OA visa, health insurance is required.

There are NO requirements for health insurance with the Non O Visa as retiree and the One year extension of stay as retired. Though it's Wise to have a good health insurance policy for your travels and life in Thailand.
