Can I use a bus or train ticket as proof for my Single Entry Tourist Visa application in Kuala Lumpur?

Hello,

I am planning to apply for a SETV ( Single Entry Tourist Visa 60 days) in KUALA LUMPUR next week. The website of the Thai Embassy in KL says I need a "return ticket to and from Thailand " .

Can that be a BUS/TRAIN or even ferry ticket or does it have to be a FLIGHT ticket??

Could it also be a ticket leaving Thailand on day 89 (60 visa + 30 day visa extension)?

The list also says I need "accomodation for the whole stay in Thailand". I read on the internet that the first 2 weeks were enough..is that true?

Does anybody have recent experience with that in KL?

How did you proof onward travel and accomandation if you didn't want to plan everything in advance like me?

I tried to call the embassy but can't get to talk to a person.

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the requirements for applying for a Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) at the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. They want to know if a bus or train ticket can be used as proof of onward travel instead of a flight ticket, and if a ticket leaving Thailand on day 89 (60 days + 30 days extension) is acceptable. Additionally, they inquire about the accommodation proof needed, questioning if only a reservation for the first two weeks suffices. Community comments suggest that while compliance with requirements can vary by the embassy, experiences indicate that using bus tickets and booking hotels with free cancellation may work. Also, it's mentioned that laws or practices may differ by region within Thailand, affecting the need for proof of accommodation.

I always use bus ticket. They're cheap and can be purchased online. I haven't gotten a SETV from KL so it purely conjecture, but I think you could do something like bus ticket after 31 days arrival (requiring visa), hotel reservation for the time. Then once you have your passport back cancel the hotel - you'll only be out the cost of the bus Ticket. I do not think you will be asked about accommodation when entering Thailand.

I only do it that way because the visa excemption ( or whatever it's called, that you can get at point of entry) is valid for 30 days. I actually do 45 days or so.. just to show cause that I need a 60 days and not 30 days. Once here, and getting the extension (+30 days), they don't ask about onward travel, or whatever.

Careful though.. Once your here (or before) know the local immigration office's policies/practices regarding check-in. Pattaya requires you stay in hotel or otherwise check-in, or you will be fined when you try to get the extension. Bangkok does not do that - it varies by region.

Good luck

Okay thank you! But why after 31 days? Not after 56 or 89? The Visa is for 60 days and can be extended for 30 more.

Hi
@Han***
I can only talk of my own experiences and I will add a precursor, as to say, anytime you are not fulfilling the checklist you run the risk of being rejected; because that week they're enforcing the rules or even just because they don't like the look of you. I've applied at KL at least 5-6 times over a 30 month period. My last application was December 2017, previous to that, was Sept 2017. I've always bought a flight to my next destination around the 89 day. And I've found that provided I had everything else on the list then 1-3 days of a booked hotel/hostel - starting from the day I arrive in Thailand - was fine. Additionally, there used to be a service provided by the hotel, across the road, on the same floor as the reception (its at the back), where they would let you use their internet and print documentation - a few years back, I once 'forgot' to purchase a onward flight and was able to run across the road and purchase/print a flight out of thailand. That said, I'm not sure if they still provide this service as I used it sometime ago. Others, might know. Good Luck!

KL can be hard on their requirements and it's certainly not the most user friendly consulate in S/E Asia.
