Anyone done visa run to Penang recently?

Should we present both a ticket to Thailand and another one outbound within the visa period when applying for a tourist visa? I have a booking but not a ticket since I plan to change my visa later when I’m back in Thailand.

Thanks ka

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question asks about the requirements for obtaining a tourist visa when doing a visa run to Penang, particularly if both an inbound and outbound ticket are necessary. A comment suggests checking the official website for the specific visa requirements, noting that some places may require proof of onward travel and accommodation while applying for a visa.

Check their website. If they say they want to see onward travel then you'll need a ticket. In Vientiane they require you to show a ticket out and hotel reservation for every day between when you will enter Thailand and when your ticket out shows.

I’m doing a border bounce to Penang next week. What if I’m staying at my gf house in BKK? Just show them a copy of her ID card and her address? I have the cash and the onward ticket.

I've never heard of them asking for lodging for a land border bounce

I will be flying. Spending two nights in Penang.

then I'm not sure. Saying you're staying with your girlfriend is not very "tourist" of you and is a red flag.

Maybe book a refundable hotel and print the reservation then cancel it.

book a fake hotel reservation for 45 days. That seems a bit excessive. What will happen if I’m denied entry. I’m a Canadian citizen. Will I be sent back to Malaysia or to Canada?and how will I arrange my travel sitting in a holding room in DMK airport?
Brandon ************
@Scott *******
not 45 days. Usually a week is enough. Just book it, print, cancel.

What happens if you're denied entry is up to the officer that day. They can either let you fly to a destination of your choice if they're in a good mood, or send you back to your passport country if they're in a bad mood.

ok. Thanks for the info. This is my 4th time to Thailand and I’ve never been asked about hotel reservations. But it’s my first bounce so you are saying they always ask the bouncers?
Brandon ************
@Scott *******
not at all. But it's one of the 3 proofs they can ask for if they want to deny you entry.

Proof of funds

Proof of onward travel

Proof of lodging

Thanks. Now I wish I planned a land bounce. I was under the impression that air bounce’s caused less scrutiny but you are saying they are more strict. Stupid me.

yeah that seems to be the case, I’ve got a flight reservation paid for my home country though, I’m stressing a bit they will question that (

Google "onward travel ticket" and use one of those. They book a real ticket for you and then cancel it after you use it for proof of flight.

Brandon Thurkettle yeah I’ve booked one from onward ticket website. It says Prepared for “my name” and flight to my home country. That’s not considered as just a booking by them?

not sure. Each one of them is a little different. You can only use what you have though right?
