TLDR : Answer Summary
During your 60-day stay in Thailand, you are required to register at each hotel you stay in, but this process is usually handled automatically by the hotel when you check in. They will register your stay with immigration by submitting the TM30 form, which is a legal requirement. As long as you stay at a hotel for more than 24 hours, they will take a copy of your passport, and you won't need to worry as long as your stays are properly registered. If you are applying for an immigration extension later, having your TM30 registration on record may be necessary.

They will always make a copy of your passport. No need to register as you say.

Your Hotel should register you automatically on check-in.

I see the marijuana market is going strong

So if i go to hotel they register and i go back to my condo were i rent. How do i register again then . Does anyone understand that . I may have asked it wrong .

you need to ask your immigration office what their policy is. Some require you to register again and some do not.

Quick question

As a tourist its no concern for you to have been repprted TM30. Only if ypu want a 30 days extension your local immigration might ask for it. That would only be the TM30 of that moment. No history check
Graham ******
If you are staying 60 days and leaving Thailand before or on your current stamp exit date you will not be using Immigration so you don't need to worry about a TM30 (which is the responsibility of your hotel or landlord anyway).
Jacob ********
Stayed at hundreds of hotels and guesthouses over the years. Many do not even ask for my passport or anything.
Baz *********
The hotel is required by law to register you as a guest..

That's why they take a copy or picture of your passport
Sylvia ********
Hotels register for you, they ask for passport at reception
Brandon **********
I only stay 11 hours at a hotel. So no need?
Randall *********
Is this a normal 60 day visa exempt?
Leon ********
Yes. Make sure they do.
Alison *****************
I never have
Henry *********
The hotel should do it automatically. That's why they need your passport.
Vural ******
You dont need.. I've been in Thailand for 2 months and changed 8 hotels.

@Vural *****
you have no idea what you are talking about. Every time you check in at a hotel, they report your stay to immigration. You wouldn't have any reason to be aware of them doing it, but it's wrong to say it doesn't need to be done
Leon ********
@Vural *****
believe me, if they find out it will become a problem.
Martyn ***********
@Vural *****
you don't need till you go to immigration for anything then they will fine you...
Vural ******
I changed 4 hotels in Udon Thani.

I have been in Thailand for 2 years, staying for 3 months and then returning to my hometown. I change 7 or 8 hotels each time. I have not had any problems so far.
Max ********
@Vural *****
how do you stay for three months without getting an extension visa?
Nongnuch ********
@Max *******
visa cannot be extended, only stay permits can get extended

I am going to apply

@Vural *****
Correct... You won't have a problem, till you have.. When need something at immigration.
Nongnuch ********
@Martyn **********
it's AirBnB accomodations which will cause most problems, because their owners rarely register their guests per TM30
Nongnuch ********
@Martyn **********
as all hotels (at least 99% of all hotels!) will register him per TM30, he won't have any problem when he needs something from Immigration. They will see the TM30 on their computer, and they will service him

The hotel do that automatically when they take a copy of your passport at check in
Garrett ***********
Any place you stay more than 24 hours needs to be registered (tm30).

@Garrett **********
Gee I’ve lived here for 20 years and never was told I need to register when I stayed anywhere in Thailand over 24 hours! Don’t turn me in! Hotels will always copy your passport that’s all is required.

@Gary *****
What do you think they do when they copy your passport genius?
