TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an OA long-stay visa to Thailand, it is essential to provide copies of health insurance details. While it is often recommended to have prepaid flight details, it's not a strict requirement for the visa application. In case the application is denied, the consequences regarding prepaid arrangements may vary, but typically, there are options to adjust travel plans accordingly. Some discussions suggest considering the retirement O visa on arrival as an alternative to reduce the burden of mandatory annual health insurance.

why not apply retire O visa on arrival? that route helps you get rid of costly but not quite useful mandatory healthvinsurance every year, as any pre condition likely all excluded.from protection
Usally i would agree with you but during these i think you be crazy not to take out insurance. Most of the time i ride my motorbike around in shorts n singlet.1 decent accident big money. Also if i catch covid big money.

Not the flight, insurance you need for the visa.
