Hi I just got my O retirement visa and did the single entry permit. Do I need to inform immigration of an exact date before I leave or am I good to go? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
After obtaining a single entry permit on your O retirement visa, you do not need to notify immigration of an exact date before departing. As long as you possess a re-entry permit in your passport, you can travel freely as long as you return before your initial entry stamp expires. Remember, the single re-entry permit allows for one exit and re-entry; a second exit will require purchasing another re-entry permit.

You can put any date on the reentry form. It doesn't have to be accurate. They don't really care when you will be travelling out.

This is why the difference between visa and extension is important when asking for guidance.

I'm on my first 3 months - in Jan I can get my 1 year

you don't have a visa any more, you got a "1-year extended stay permit based on retirement". The single re-entry permit is valid until the expiry of the stay permit. It will keep your "1-year extension of stay permit" alive for ONE exit and re-entry into Thailand. If you wish to exit and re-enter a second time, you will need to buy another single re-entry permit

. A classic example of the difference between a yearly extension and a visa. Your advice only applies to an extension, not a visa.

I've only just got the 3 months, not on the 1 year yet. Thanks - good to know ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

As long as you already have the re-entry permit in your passport, you just leave and return before your entry stamp expires.

. Re entry permit doesn't give you any extra time. Just allows you re entry during visa validity
