MARRY IN THAILAND

i need to get proof of passport and proof of NOT being married from UK embassy with stamp, most agents say you have to get this from UK embassy in BKK as they only accept that stamp when applying, rather than getting the certificates in the UK embassy in London is this correct??
Answer summary
To get married in Thailand, you must obtain a 'Freedom to Marry' certificate from the UK Embassy in Bangkok, rather than acquiring it from London. The process involves booking an appointment at the embassy, where you will receive the required documents that must be translated into Thai. Additional steps may include a visit to a local ministry and the amphur for the marriage registration. Many users recommend utilizing agents for ease, though it can also be done independently.

I’ve paid through our wedding organisers to do the whole process for us they are meeting us at our embassy meeting and dealing with everything from there on for a fee of course but less hassle for myself and can relax

What about if you're already married and moving to Thailand? I'm getting my Thai passport and will move next year. Wife is not Thai. We've been married for over 30 years.

Make an appointment with the British embassy in Bangkok. You need to get the affirmation of freedom to marry from there. It’s easy enough. When you come out from the embassy you will be approached by agents outside who can deal with all the other paperwork and do all the legwork. You then just turn up to the amphur for the actual marriage. You can do it yourself to save a few pounds but you will be running around for hours! I think it cost me around a couple of hundred pounds all in. It was so much easier.

My boyfriend just got it done last month. You need to book an appointment through the UK Embassy’s website. It costs around £75 for the single status certificate and certified passport. Then, you need to have both documents translated into Thai and legalized by the Thai Consular Affairs Department (both the original documents and their Thai translations).

Bear in mind that the single status certificate is valid for only 3 months, and you need to state the date and place where you plan to get married.

Bring all your id requirements and get the no impediment to marry form filled out at the embassy in Bangkok.

We found it easier to use a agent from then on, takes about 30 days for the government to say yes you can marry, then go to The Amphor and sign, no need for a big waste of money wedding.

What are you talking about 'UK embassy in London', countries don't have embassies in their own country. An embassy is a government 'office' in a foreign country that does the jobs that are normally done by government departments in their home country. Please correct me if you know different and can prove it.

Del Dinsdale If you think that's a pain - you won't like what follows. Your affirmation of Freedom to Marry has to be translated and the translation has to be certified and legalised by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). That involves yet another appointment and 2 visits to the MFA. If you're smart you'll let the translation agency do that for you for a small additional fee. Once you have the legalised documents you are then able to register your marriage at an Amphur (district registry office) - however, due to recent changes most Amphurs will not register your marriage immediately - they want up to 2 months to 'check your documents. Some will do that in a week but, as long as your Mrs will accept not registering the marriage in her local area, the translation agency should be able to point you towards a Bangkok registry office that will do it in one visit. Again there will be money involved. Don't forget that you will also need a certified copy of your passport from the British Embassy and that will also need to be translated and certified by the MFA.

also, the appointment can only be made up to 30 days in advance. Once a person's preferred date is known, it is as well to book as soon as you get within 30 days. Also, the embassy in Bangkok has certain days for appointments and get there early to clear security. Oh for the days when it was a civilised (as much as it can be!) visit to Wireless Road and a proper embassy.
