I'm looking for a reliable agent who can help us gather all the necessary documents for our planned marriage in Bangkok. I'm Dutch and live in the Netherlands, and my future wife is Thai and lives in Thailand. I'm going to Bangkok at the end of November to marry my girlfriend, but I'd like to be sure I have all the documents I need to gather in the Netherlands beforehand in order. Does anyone have any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Dutch citizen planning to marry a Thai national in Bangkok is seeking advice on the necessary documents to prepare in the Netherlands before the wedding. The conversation reveals that essential documents include a passport, birth certificate, proof of marital status, and possibly a prenuptial agreement. Several users recommend consulting the Thai Visa Center and ensuring all documents are legalized both in the Netherlands and Thailand. There's also discussion on how to prove income as a self-employed individual and the role of translation services.

Why do you need an agent? This thread has all the answers. I got married last April.,..easy peasy.

Absolutely positively make sure you have a prenuptial agreement set up. Many a man have said "oh but she's different" only to end up with a 0 bank account and no place to live.

So far, I've gathered:

1. Birth certificate

2. Extract from the Municipal Personal Records Database (this lists my marital status)

3. Extract from the marriage certificate (divorce certificate) from my previous marriage

4. Passport copies

5. Application form for declaration of marital status with the intention of getting married in Thailand

6. Witness and income statement

I'll have documents 1 through 4 legalized in the Netherlands at my municipality of residence and then at the Consular Services Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.

I want to take them to the Dutch embassy in Bangkok for legalization there, and then to the MFA in Bangkok.

My concern: should I have my passport copy translated in the Netherlands by a certified translator, have the translator's signature certified by the court, and then by the Thai embassy in the Netherlands? (That's what I'm reading.) Or is this done in Thailand?

And furthermore: how do I prove my income? I'm self-employed, not employed. My income is high enough, but how do I prove it?

The certified copy op your passport can be made at the Dutch embassy in Bangkok, then you will bring it to a translator office nearby. Then either you or the translation office will go to MFA to legalize the document.

The document from your country to say you are single etc, passport, go to your embassy to get it stamped, than to MFA's 2nd floor to get it translated and go MFA to get stamped. Her id, house book will also be needed. Get her to contact the kettle to ask what other documents they need.

Chat gpt produces an excellent two column pre nuptial agreement and cover letter to govt officials. It is signed at sane time of marriage in govt office and legal. Should state Thai get 51% of home if freehold in Thai wife name
