Do I need to extend my stay if I'm leaving Thailand on the 31st day after entering on a 60-day visa-exempt entry?

Apr 10, 2026

Hi everyone. I'm traveling soon and will be there for 31 days, leaving on the 31st. Would I need to extend my 30-day stay because of that departure day? Does that day count as an effective day? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question pertains to the validity of a visa-exempt entry stay in Thailand, where the traveler will be in the country for 31 days. The consensus in the comments indicates that current entry regulations allow for a 60-day visa-exemption for Spanish passport holders. Thus, the traveler does not need to extend their stay to accommodate their departure on the 31st day, as it falls within the permitted duration of stay. The rules specify that both the day of entry and the day of exit are counted towards the stay duration.

I was misinformed. They told me it was 30 days instead of 60. I feel much better now. Thank you all so much for your help.

The day you arrive is one day . The day you leave is one day. Therefore you should be leaving one day BEFORE stamp on passport. I know because I counted the exact days I was taken aside with a reprimand not to do it again

Currently you are eligible for a 60 day visa exempt entry stamp, so nothing to be concerned about, BUT, there is a possibility the 60 days will be reduced to 30 days per a new government policy, but nobody knows when or if.

The day you arrive and the day you leave both count as days IN Thailand.

e.g. arrive 4th, leave 24th, = 21 days.

And John is correct; right now, it's still 60 days visa-exempt, assuming you're one of those 93 countries.

Alan Rothwell Sorry if this isn't clear; I'm using a translator and it doesn't seem to be translating exactly what I'm saying. Our country of origin is Spain, we'd arrive in Thailand on July 10th, and our departure flight is on August 9th, for a 31-day stay. I was told that if you exceed 30 days, you have to notify immigration to extend your stay. Is this correct if the 31st day is the same day we leave Thailand? Or was I misinformed, and it's 60 days without notifying immigration? I don't think it's relevant, but we were already there for 10 days in February. I'm giving the same answer to everyone who commented.

Alejandro Garcia Serrano No, right now you get 60 days entering visa-exempt. They are "talking" about reducing it to 30, but nothing has changed yet.

For your 60-day visa-exempt entry, you do not have to notify anybody if you leave by the 60th day.

If you want to stay longer than the 60 days, you file for a 30-day extension of stay at the local immigration dept for the location you are staying in.

So, for your July 10th - Aug 9th trip, you're good. No need to report or extend - even if they DO go back to 30 days (1 day overstay is forgiven, & free). 👍

31st of what month???

31 May 2026, 31 July 2026, as, of course, 31 March 2026 has already passed...

What dates are on your current Entry Stamp ( ผ.60–ม.17 ) into Thailand???

Also, what dates are on your Tourist Extension of Stay obtained from your local Thai immigration office inside Thailand???

That will depend upon what passport you hold and the number of days you get on entry. Most currently get 60 days, how do you get 30?.

Alejandro Garcia Serrano If your passport is Spannish you currently get 60 days on entry as the infographic states. If you were there in Feb. you got 60 days then too.

Alejandro Garcia Serrano This is still the last and only official announcement regarding visa exemption. And you normally still get 60 days upon entry with a Spanish passport. No need to extend at the immigration. If anything changes we’ll have to wait for a new announcement. Buen viaje!
