Do I need to do a visa run after getting a new passport with my non-immigrant B visa in Thailand?

My American passport is nearly out of pages and I will need to get a new one. However, my current passport has my non-immigrant B visa, since I am a teacher here.

My question is, will I need to do a visa run and get a new non-immigrant B visa? Presumably they can't take out the page and it was issued abroad. Any advice please?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are renewing your American passport and it contains a non-immigrant B visa, you do not need to do a visa run. Instead, you can transfer your entry stamp to your new passport by visiting an immigration office in Thailand. Bring your new passport, your old passport, and any relevant documentation from the US State Department. Having copies of your old passport pages can help facilitate the process.

Travel with both passports, that's it.

When you get your new passport simply take it, your old passport, and the letter from the US State department you got with your new passport to immigration. Having a copy of every used page in your old passport can save you needing to go make copies of pages. This is free to do. You don't leave the country. Immigration first puts a database reference number stamp in your new passport, and transfers your entry stamp into it. It is a very easy process.

Your visa was used when you entered Thailand. There's no visa to move. You can get your entry stamp moved to your new passport at your immigration office.
