TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on acquiring a 90-day visa for Thailand for travel from November to February, or a long-term one-year visa, as they are having difficulties with the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles. Community members suggest looking into a 60-day single tourist visa, which can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office, and they also provide varied advice on how and where to apply for these visas.

Hi, how does this work ? as i thought you had to apply to the Thai embassy in your home country to get a visa ?
Reluctant *******
Don't worry. You can pick up 1 year visas at 7-11 along with your new SIM card.

Hope all goes well!

60 day single tourist visa, which allows you to extend a further 30 days at immigration office. All online at the moment, so you will get full information there

What type of visa are you seeking? If you give this information you will get the right advice

Thanks for the information, Barry & Bobby.

My mate's in the Elisa portal, obtaining some required documents and hoping to soon complete his Elvis's online application.

Cheers

Yes. My friend knows it's Evisa.

He's completed most online but is now wondering about Barry's experience in detail.

Cheers

l contacted the Thai embassy in L.A. and tried to sign up at this email l was given by them. Evisa.gov.th

I don't think Barry used the eVisa portal. There's no use contacting the consulate as they no longer deal with visas

l tried to register twice by email with the Thailand embassy in Los Angeles just so l could apply for a Visa. Never received a return email both times.
Phil ********
Is Los Angeles rejecting your application ?

When did you apply and for what type of visa?

A mate of mine is about to send in his online application to LA...

Is LA just unresponsive ?
Bobby ********
@Phil *******
US now uses eVisa applications. You do not apply directly to the consulate.

Yep. As Lisa has said, best option is get the 60-day tourist visa from your embassy. You're stamped in for 60 days, and you can extend in-country for a further 30 days

good advice, Iā€™m planning on doing this too, just wondering if the airline will have a problem if return ticket is beyond the 60 days?
Bobby ********
@Aaron ******
You don't need a return ticket, you need an onward ticket out of the country. Just buy a cheap bus ticket which takes you from Nong Khai to Vientiane within the 60 days. It's the airlines who check your travel when checking in. They don't understand about the 30-day extension deal.

perfect, thanks!

This is just a random date I've picked. You can cancel within 72 hours of departure. But it's only $23 US

I've tried to apply several times online to the Thailand Embassy here in Los Angeles and my emails are never returned. Is there a website that will give me a step by step walk through for this process?
Bob **********
@Barry *****
try the Chicago office

@Bob *********
you have to apply to the office that handles your area. They ask for proof of where you live in the application to ensure you use the correct office.

l also have a question about airline ticket, if l fly in on 60 day visa but intend on extending an extra 30 days. Should I purchased a 90 day return date or just get 60 day ticket and adjust it for an extra 30 days?
Bob **********
@Barry *****
90 days but be careful you don't overstay one day best to book 89 days
Lisa ********************
@Barry *****
any onward travel ticket will do. Doesn't have to be your return ticket. Cheap bus ticket to any neighbouring country is ok.
