Anyone already a resident/WP holder in Thailand, applying for a DTV? Just wondering if it's possible once you cancel the WP?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) after canceling your work permit (WP) and current extension. However, you must do this before leaving Thailand, and then apply at a Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand. Note that cancelling your WP means you cannot continue your current job unless your work is outsourced to a Thai company.
You should be able to get the DTV after cancelling the WP and your current extension, but obviously you cant then do the work that you're currently doing, unless you built that construction where the work is outsourced from abroad to a Thai company which then employs you domestically to do it. If the origin of your work is Thai, getting a DTV is pointless.
I mean her company would save on tax if employing a freelancer using a shell company (eg in Singapore ) and you might also pay less tax than with work permit
is that the case? There certainly are advantages for the company as they don't need to comply with other restrictions now, such as the minimum number of Thai employees for every employed foreigner, but as a worker I think you still owe the same tax.
tax liability is not dependent on your visa type except for some specific types of LTR visa that come with tax benefits. But that's not the case for the DTV.
If you want to apply for a DTV and you're currently on a non-B extension for working in Thailand, you would need to cancel your work permit and extension before leaving Thailand, and then could apply for the DTV at a Thai embassy or consulate outside of Thailand.
