Do I need to cancel my expired education visa before returning to Thailand with my new DTV visa?

I was approved for a DTV visa. I already have an education visa which is expiring in a few days. I'm visiting my home country of Canada at the moment and the plan is to return to Thailand with my new DTV visa. Even though my ed visa will be expired, should I have cancelled the initial one first? Is there something I need to do now to avoid problems?

Thanks,

Corey

TLDR : Answer Summary
Corey has been approved for a new DTV visa while currently holding an expiring education visa. He is concerned about whether he needs to cancel his education visa before returning to Thailand and what actions he should take to avoid potential issues. Responses suggest that while he should have canceled the education visa before leaving if it was an extension of stay, he should be fine entering Thailand with the new DTV visa. However, he should be prepared to report to immigration regarding his visa status and ensure his address is registered.

were you on a visa or on an extension of stay? If the latter you should have cancelled it before leaving Thailand. I doubt you will have an issue entering Thailand but the next time you interact with immigration inside Thailand they could deem you on overstay and act appropriately

Congratulations on obtaining the new 5 year DVT visa.

You state that your current Ed Visa will expire in a few days. That's Good ๐Ÿ˜Š As you have a new Thai DVT visa. And you are not returning to Thailand on the Ed Visa.

When you fly to Thailand with your New DVT visa, be sure to PRINT OUT several copies as each time you enter Thailand or apply for a 180 day extension of stay, you will need to show it to the Thai Immigration Officers.

And your airline may ask to see it when you check-in for flights โœˆ๏ธ.

You will need to make the 90 day report when you are in Thailand for 90 days. At your local Thai Immigration office.

It's then that it might be noticed... or hopefully not, that you did not cancel the Ed Visa prior to your leaving Thailand to return to your home country.

Be sure to have a TM30 address registration on file with Thai Immigration on your return to Thailand.

thanks for the response!

If they do notice I did not cancel my existing visa, what would be the outcome?

at this point there's little to nothing you can do. Six MONTHS after your first 180 Day entry into Thailand with your New DTV Visa, they may have you cancel the Ed Visa. OR might NOT do anything. From your expressed concerns in your replies, it's obvious that you knew you should have cancelled the Ed Visa before you departed Thailand. You chose not to cancel it.

Go with the flow...you have a new Thai Visa. Enjoy Thailand.

Thanks for your response. I didn't know I needed to until I read another thread today from another poster :). Going to try to contact my school and see if they can do anything
