TLDR : Answer Summary
Whether you need a visa to re-enter Thailand after visiting Laos depends on various factors including your visa type, travel history in Thailand, and whether you've obtained a re-entry permit. Generally, if you're on a visa-exempt entry and have a questionable travel history, you might face scrutiny at the border or may need a re-entry permit. It's advised to have proof of a confirmed departure and sufficient funds when re-entering. For best practices, consulting a Thai embassy or immigration office for personalized advice is recommended.

Passport country? Did you have a visa before you left and not get a re-entry permit? Did you enter visa exempt then leave? Past travel history can affect whether you need to apply for a visa.

You dont say what visa or visa exempt you had, what visa you want on reentry...you don't give any indication of your history staying in Thailand.

Every foreigner entering Thailand must fill in arrival form (TDAC) this is not a visa or entry permit.

If your history is questionable, expect a grilling and possible denial. Ensure you have a confirmed exit flight out of Thailand and proof of B20,000, which may help GL

this strongly depends on your visa-exempt or touristic-stamp history in you passport of the recent 365 days . . it is up to the discretion of the officer at the border to decide if you are a real tourist or if you try to stay in Thailand long term without the correct visa fit for such a purpose

If you have extensive travel history in Thailand last 24 months, several long visa free stays, several extensions, etc. you could face issues entering visa exempt again.

It all depends on your travel history as per other comments, the mood of the officer, if you plan to re-enter through land border or via airport, and so on.

If you plan to fly back absolute safest bet would be to pay for safe entry via agent for ~3k baht and they will guarantee you another visa exempt entry.

Update TDAC. Re entry permit may or may not may not be needed depending on visa and travel to and stay in Thailand history

Kim Nielsen indeed then he would need a visa. Assuming he's a tourist, depending on nationality, he can get an exempt visa..But if he is doing a visa run, there are specific rules and the number of times he can enter Thailand like that.

Robert Compton every time a ferang enters Thailand they need to fill in the Tdac, even if they only left for a few minutes, there are no exemptions from the Tdac .
