Coming to Phuket in March from Vancouver ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ applying 90 days visa here, after arrival, plan to apply 1 year Retirement Visa, please advice if we are required to produce Police Clearance Report from Canada? We collected a form from Thai Consulate, the PCR was included in the list Much appreciated ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
Answer summary
The individual plans to visit Phuket with a 90-day Non-O visa and convert it to a retirement visa. They inquire whether a Police Clearance Report from Canada is necessary. Responses from other community members clarify that a Police Clearance Report is not required when applying for a retirement visa extension in Thailand. It is emphasized that the Non-O visa is suitable for quick visa processing, and important steps involve opening a Thai bank account to meet the financial requirements for the retirement visa.

You need to get a non-O visa before coming and then you can convert that to a retirement visa so long as you meet the requirements. The non-O visa will also let you open a bank account where as a tourist visa does not and you need the bank account plus either 800,000 Baht in it or money being transferred monthly for the retirement visa. I would recommend checking with the Thai embassy before leaving as it will save you a lot of trouble. Remember that the non-O visa is issued in the country that your passport is issued in and not in Thailand, I have heard of people getting it here but it cost them a lot of money (about 50,000 Baht I think) where as if you have the right visa when you get here it costs just 1,900 Baht for the retirement visa.

Is there possible to apply for non-o in canada now? Few years ago it was only available non- O A... where you need police and doctors reports.

You can apply for non-o in neighboring country though like Laos

Philippe Bourret, now we can obtain for 90 day non -O visa online, Thai e-visa site.

As
@Brandon ***********
mentioned, we will have to extend for another year. We both are above 60.

I think what Soulseeker was meaning is that you must open a Thai bank account to extend your stay. The process is this:

1. Enter Thailand using your 90 day Non-O visa.

2. Go to immigration and get a residence certificate. You can also get a list of documents they require to extend your stay at the same time.

3. Get a Thai cell phone package.

4. Go to the Bank and open an account ASAP (in the first two weeks of being in Thailand).

5.Deposit 800,000 baht in to your account.

6. Wait two months, then return to the immigration office with everything on their list and apply to extend your stay. It costs 1,900 baht. Good luck.

Soulseeker Dolphlee it is not a short stays visa

Stuart Chiverton that is right but the most important is to open bank account in thailand . Non-o is considering as short stay visa most banks in Thailand not allowed to open bank account , unless you have long stay visa such as retirement :)

The 90 day non-O IS the retirement visa, so you won't be applying for any 1-year retirement visa.

When you arrive in Thailand, what you would be applying for is a 1-year extension based on retirement (being at least 50 years old). Extensions inside of Thailand don't have any requirement for background checks.

Embassies and consulates have no idea what is required from immigration inside of Thailand. They are completely different government agencies that do not communicate with each other.
