TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses whether a flight needs to be booked before applying for a Thai visa online. Responses suggest that while you can visit a Thai consulate for a visa, booking a flight may still be required even for an online application. Some users recommend considering a 30-day visa exemption as an alternative.

Thanks for your help guys im starting to think it would be easier to go to thailand on a 30 day exempt and extend for a further 30 days there haha

Ady Bazeley that is OK.

IF your airline will allow you to fly without a return ticket out of Thailand...and IF you do not have a history of entries into Thailand.

Good Luck...and as you know the answer to your question...and options too..

Ady Bazeley your airline also may deny you boarding your flight without a return ticket or ticket out of Thailand.

And as the SETV can be extended in Thailand 30 days ...you should show a ticket returning or leaving Thailand within 89 days or sooner. Your arrival day counts as day #1.

Are you using the UK online visa application?

If so...go to a Thai Consulate in UK...much easier to get the Single Entry Tourist Visa. Walk in service.
