TLDR : Answer Summary
An American seeking a work permit in Thailand is inquiring about the necessity of obtaining a background check, whether it should be at the state or federal level. Responses from the community suggest that a background check is generally not required unless the individual is teaching. Several commenters also mention that the employer is likely to provide guidance on requirements, with one person noting that they obtained their background check from the police headquarters in Bangkok.

I used the county sheriff in texas -- you need it for visa if processing in DC -- that is if you are still in the states.

I’ve always gotten mine from the police headquarters in Bangkok. Never been asked for anything else.
