Hi guys. If someone is getting a NonB visa to get a work permit for a job that is NOT teaching, do they still require a Thai police clearance? I've been told its not needed but would like to know if anyone knows otherwise. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The general consensus among expats is that a Thai police clearance is not required for a Non-B visa when the job is not teaching. Multiple users confirmed that they obtained their Non-B visas and work permits without needing a police clearance. However, some variations may depend on specific circumstances, such as the employer's industry or past experiences. It's important to note that requirements can change, so staying updated on current regulations is advised.
Maryann I got my visa last week in Singapore. You definitely don't need it unless you're going to be teaching.

I'm not a teacher and I have never ever had to produce a Thai police clearance for anything,... not for my visa, not for my WP and not for my ID-Card. 11 years in Thailand. First time I hear of this actually.

Got mine at Chaengwattana in 2015 and it wasn't a requirement. Have been granted extension every year since without problem.

lets keep this clean guys, we all know the rules are always changing, we cannot deny that.

No one is arguing. We are just sharing our own experiences.

Well, I can assure you it was requested when I applied. Not sure why people are arguing with the facts of my situation. I haven't come on here to spout random bullshit

Agreed. Teaching is the exception.

From my experience the rules can change on the fly but the subject of police clearance has never come up.
David ********
And renewals are known to be a lot easier than initial applications.
Adam ***********
This one hasn't.

With all due respect, requirements are changing by the week, so since 2015 details have probably changed a thousand times...

Very likely you'll still need it... It's not too difficult to get and costs very little...

Could be - speaking from personal experience I've needed 5 business visas in the last 12 years and always flew out to get them - also never needed a background check for a visa or a work permit. But as you say - things are inconsistent here.

Maybe it's because my employer's line of work is related to teaching?

Fair enough. News to me.

No, 3 month non-b. Then obtained a WP. About to go back and get the extension when my employer finally gets the paper work together. All I'm saying is there are loads of variables... Your history, employer, employer's history etc etc, plus the immigration officer's discretion and the direction of the wind and the humidity percentage on the day in Bangkok, can all come into play...
Adam ***********
Do you mean you got a 1 year extension of stay?
David ********
I could send you a photo of the page of my passport showing a non-b stamped in at Chaeng wattana, or you can take my word for it. Don't forget, this is Thailand we're talking about...

Much as I'd love to continue wasting my time commenting on here, I can assure you 100%, I got a non-b at Chaeng wattana. Depending on the company, it IS possible to get a non-b at Chaeng wattana...
Adam ***********
Much as I'd love to agree with you I wouldn't want us both to be wrong.
David ********
Yes you can, 100%
Adam ***********
I'm sure it wasn't - you can't get b visas at Chaengwattana, or anywhere else in Thailand for that matter.
David ********
Got mine at Chaeng Wattana. It was a requirement...

Got my type B in Singapore last week - there's no requirement.
