TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around obtaining background checks, particularly in Thailand, which may be required for expats for various purposes, including visa applications. Users discuss different methods of obtaining these checks, the variability based on the country of origin, and share personal experiences regarding processing times. While a police check from a local station in Thailand can take up to 30 days, expedited services in Bangkok may allow for quicker retrieval in 7-10 days. There's also mention of needing certifications and translations for checks from home countries.

thanks for the info. I’ve read about people getting FBI related checks for visa applications, that wasn’t my point. There are without doubt differences from country to country. My point was if it is a police check from your own country then it may have to be certified by your embassy then legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to applying for a visa. Assuming (as it is a visa forum) that’s what it’s for. Criminal checks (now) required for a work permit application (in education) don’t appear to have this requirement. At the moment.
In the United States there is certainly an FBI. And they can do background checks but that is NOT the requirement. Simply a "police background" It makes a huge difference. I satisfied this requirement with a simple affidavit from the local court house from the small municipality I lived in at the the time. The affidavit simple said - I had no active history with that municipality.

As far as a check from your home country, obviously depends where you come from. I believe it’s an FBI check in the states. Worth noting, and as a requirement at the Penang consulate, you are required to get your police check translated and certified. My embassy wouldn’t actually do it.. which means the MFA couldn’t certify it either.

I saw this coming last August when Penang started listing it as a requirement for a non imm b. And was pro-active. It’s not a quick method granted. I was told to go directly to the pcs centre if I wanted one done quickly. But to answer the OP’s question of what is the fastest way, it seems he’s already done it.
And the school is wiling to wait more than 3 months for you to apply for the visa and pick up the work permit before you start to work?

I got mine processed through a local police station. If they are ‘ok’ with your school they take your fingerprints and send the stuff up for you. 500 baht. Took three months to get back but no hassle. If you’ve been to Bangkok and had it done there then that’s the fastest way you can do. It. 7 - 10 days is quick.

yeah it said up to 30 days. Was wandering if there was faster way. I went to Bangkok and got it sent back in 7-10 days but I have heard about getting it back faster and I wanted to ask. Thanks Robert

I am pretty sure people in Thailand can have them mailed in from outside Thailand. I have known at lease one person who has done it that way.

Do you mean a police check? I guess it depends on what country you're from or even the region of that country

It kinda matters where you're from or where you need the background check from. In the US, for US background checks you can use any local municipality to get a certified letter that you have no active cases. I have hear that is true for the Canadians as well. Also i have heard of people needing (or using) background checks from their most recent place of living (not always residnce). Some ExPats in Thailand will need to use background checks from Thailand.
