TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses whether it's necessary to carry the original work permit when leaving Thailand for a short trip, especially when holding a re-entry permit. Several commenters share differing experiences, with some suggesting it's not often required, while others recommend carrying it just to be safe. There is also mention of the legal implications of taking a work permit out of the country, with conflicting opinions about whether it is illegal to do so.
Why would an Immigration Officer ask for a Work Permit if you enter the country? Lots of employees apply for their first Non Immigrant B visa and get their Work Permit after entering Thailand at the Ministry of Labor. This means according to your advice they all should be denied entry of not having a work permit yet.
I personally wouldn't carry my WP on my vacation trip. And I have never been asked for WP, but I have been asked for valid visa. (I haven't fled with Cathey )Yes I'm aware these are all my personal experience and it doesn't do anything for any of you... But I also personally don't believe any ground staff at an airport in another country would know or understand about WP of Thailand especially those are in Thai and dated with Thai years...
I also doubt immigration care about WP much, they care about valid visa or extension of stay..

Hong Kong In Town Check In understands all. They even speak Thai
Never heard of anyone ever being asked for their work permit, because it is to be kept on your person or at the place of work "when working", there is no reason to carry it when you are not at work, no immigration official is going to check a document issued by the Ministry of Labour. Leave it at home and then you won't lose it.
Tod is right, if you are going to other country which has visa on arrival they will check your return destination, if you return to Bangkok they ask you got visa or work there, so carry it
