TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry regarding the necessity of six months passport validity on an Australian passport to extend a Non-B visa for 50+ years solicits clarification. Comments indicate that the extension can be applied for at immigration, and the validity requirements hinge on the passport's valid until date or the extension date, whichever is earlier.

You can apply for an Extension of Stay at immigration, the last date of this Extension is the day of the Extension or the valid until date of the passport, what ever comes first.

NO, what ever comes first, if you apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay and your passport is valid for another 5 months you get 5 months.

I'm concerned with the expiry date of my passport. Not the extension. Do I need 6 months passport validity at time of extension? I will have 5 months this time

Non B for 50+ ? Either you are working or you have a non O for being over 50

I also fail to see what that has to do with my question.

no. When I arrived in thailand you could extend any non immigration visa for 50+. More recently this has been adjusted to non o and oa only.
