Hi! Has anyone enrolled their follower kids in an international school? I’ve been told that my kids need a student visa, even though they are my followers on the DTV visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses whether children of expatriates holding DTV visas in Thailand need a separate student visa to enroll in international schools. Comments indicate varying experiences: some believe a student visa is unnecessary for children on dependent visas, while others suggest schools may have specific requirements. It's noted that some schools might require education (ED) visas, but others accept children on DTV visas. Overall, confirmation from the individual schools regarding their policies is recommended.
My kids are attending an international school and were originally on an education visa. I switched them to a dtv after checking with the school first and they said it was fine. It's less paperwork for them anyway. I know some schools will only accept kids on an ED, though
I'd think if you are here on a legit visa of any kind you can enroll in an educational institution without the need for any other visa type such as ED. Sounds to me like the school hasn't had any other type of alternative experience until now.
DTV isn't a tourist visa, it's a long-term visa, so I was expecting this wouldn't be an issue. However, maybe the lack of experience is what's causing this problem.
it is a tourist class visa The length of validity doesn't really matter You're stamped in for 6 months. I've never heard anywhere that you must be on an ED visa to enroll in a school. Of course until the DTV the ED visa was the most practical and useful.
Interesting point. I am pretty sure children as dependents on B Visas do not need a separate student visa. I can ask some ex colleagues as many had kids in the international schools and kids on dependent visas. Hope your get it sorted.
