DTV dependent visa requirements

I have a DTV visa from January 2025

One month ago I gave birth in Thailand and the baby has already gotten a foreign passport.

Does anybody knows whether I need to go to my home country (with the baby) for a follower visa or is it possible to go to any other third-party country in the region to obtain a dependent visa?
Answer summary
The discussion outlines the requirements for obtaining a dependent visa (DTV) for a newborn in Thailand under a DTV visa. Contributors clarify that typically, the parent must return to their home country to apply for a dependent or any new visa for the child due to Thai regulations that require applications to be processed from the country of citizenship. There are mixed opinions on the implications of overstaying for children under 14, with some sharing experiences that suggest it is possible to stay without immediate penalties. However, there is a consensus that obtaining a visa is advisable to avoid future complications, especially regarding potential bans on re-entry to Thailand for the child.

To begin with, there's no overstay before the age of 14, there shouldn't be any problems, and this has been thoroughly reviewed. However, if you're determined to apply and the issuing embassy doesn't require an interview or in-person submission of your application, you can technically apply online from wherever you like, since the information you provide is self-declared.

I actually know several people who applied through certain embassies while they weren't actually in the country in question, but, for example, in a neighboring country.

You could, for instance, stay in Malaysia for a certain period; however, applying directly from Thailand seems more complicated. I don't know exactly what the consequences would be if the authorities discovered that the application was submitted while you were still in Thailand.

My foreign child travelled in and out multiple times without a visa from 0 to 4 years old never had any issues with overstays at immigration but both parents had valid visas, now she started school so she has her own visa.

Yes, you will have to go to your home country and apply for a dependent visa. You might also need 500k for each of you

I ask the immigration officer if it’s bad that my baby has overstay. He was laughing at me 🤷🏼‍♀️ so my baby went in and out several times with overstay and never had any problems…

Just wondering. In the future, when the child becomes an adult and wants to apply for a Thai visa, won’t they have to state that they have a history of overstaying? Might that hinder them from getting approved for visas in the future?

Funny sidenote: your baby has no entry stamp to Thailand. That’s also not good 😄

Obviously it would be ideal to get a visa for your child. However, it’s important to realize that under the age of 15 there are no penalties overstay in Thailand

not the best advice. My daughter was almost banned for entering a third time this year, but they let us through with the promise to get her a visa quickly which we ended up doing. Indeed no pentalties, but also no leaving the country because they will make it difficult to come back

but still not good. I knows cases where child received a ban to enter Thailand after 3 years of overstay

that would be contrary to the official policy and should be challenged.

no penalties. Only ban

If you want to get a DTV for your child you have to go back to your country of origin. Whether it's a dependent or new application, DTV can now only be applied for from the country where you have citizenship or permanent residency.
