Is it possible for a U.S. citizen in Spain to apply for a Thai DTV online or should I visit the consulate?

I’m a US citizen currently living in Spain on a student visa. I want to go straight from Spain to Thailand once my visa is up. I’d love to apply for my DTV online but I’m worried that might be complicated since I’m not in my country of origin. There is a Thai consulate in Madrid but it’s kind of far from me.

Has anyone had experience of applying for the DTV online in a country they are temporarily living in? Is it possible or spoils I just go to the Madrid consulate? I’d love to know your thoughts ✨❤️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the challenges a US citizen studying in Spain faces when applying for a Thai DTV visa online. It highlights experiences from others regarding applying from a non-origin country and the alternate suggestion to visit Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam or Cambodia to apply more easily. Comments emphasize using the online evisa system instead of the consulate in Madrid, with reminders about residency requirements and application processing times.

of course you can apply. Please only use the evisa portal. Tghe embassies are not equipped for this program (staff knowledge wise). and then just do some base research; who many people have applied from Spain, where is the closest embassy accepting applications for DTV near Spain, in Europe. A lot of people in the UK are getting approved within days. Yes, it is very easy from SEA, but its not impossible to do from any foreign country. Just make sure you can get to the interview if you are called in. But your location is not an issue unless 'it is'

You got this

Seeing as you have long term visa to stay in Spain you can apply online using the evisa system thru the Madrid consulate. Keep in mind they take a LONG time (up to 4 weeks) to process the application.

BUT

no issues applying thru them IF you indeed have a long term visa for Spain as a student

Right now they don't have much application/work, we applied last week and they requested some more document after 2 hours 😅

really good, now lets see if they actually process the visa faster 🙂

Fly to Vietnam or Taiwan on a one way ticket and apply online from there. Could take a couple of weeks at most, but that’s your best bet. If you have the income and time, it’s a good option. Make a vacation out of it.

The only way to apply is online. If your application won’t be accepted by the embassy in Spain, your best bet is to travel to a South East Asian country like Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia etc.

They accept applications from non residents.

Thank you! I saw so many posts talking about going to an embassy in person that I thought almost no one was using the online portal

you got your wires crossed. EVERYONE is using the online web-portal as all thai consulates are on the eVisa system.

There is no Thai consulate in the world that has walk up application

There were a few previously that were ‘walk ups’ as in you went there but now, all visas for Thailand are processed online. You do have to be in the country you’re applying in when you apply, and during the process until the decision is made. Some only allow those with residence in that country to apply so check the website of the embassy you’re thinking of using first.

Use the search tool in this group and you’ll see many posts about timeframes and processes from embassies and consulates in many different countries.

Good luck 😊

You can see from many posts people apply in countries that they are just visiting. Several countries nearby Thailand which are easy to get the DTV from.

Don't go to the embassy in Madrid waste of time. Use the online evisa system

If you not Spanish citizen and don’t have resident permit in Spain your application will be rejected. Same policy in all Thai embassies across EU. Beside residence permit they will accept bank statements only from Spain or Andorra
