Do Canadians in Japan need to return to BC to notarize documents for a DTV application?

Canadian just applied for DTV from Japan Tokyo embassy.

So apparently I need my documents notarized since I’m not from Japan/Thailand.

Any Canadians have experience with this? We’re from British Columbia but apparently the Tokyo embassy doesn’t notarized BC documents?

I.e., do we physically have to go back to BC, Canada to notarize our documents?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian currently in Tokyo is seeking advice on notarizing documents for a DTV application, particularly whether they must return to British Columbia since the Tokyo embassy does not notarize BC documents. Responses suggest alternatives such as using local notary services in Tokyo or sending documents to someone in BC for notarization.

Can you send the documents to someone in BC and get them notarised? The embassy in Tokyo appears to be more difficult than many other places.

Yes, I have family in BC. I just wasn't sure if I had to be physically present?

Coucou! Just a quick question, when the statut of your application changed (like from pending documents check to pre approved), do you received an email or you have to check the website all the time ? :)

I've recently notorized documents as a Canadian in Tokyo (not for the DTV) - you shouldn't need to go to the embassy, you should be able to just go to a regular notary in Tokyo unless the Thai embassy needs you to do it in Canada for some reason? I would confirm with them.

Did you get your documents notarized, and if so could you recommend any notaries in Tokyo?

My understanding of the email is that I need to get "an embassy or ministry of foreign affairs of my own country (Canada)" to notarize it. I looked up Canadian Embassy in Tokyo (second image) and they mentioned they don't notarize BC documents due to some recent law changes.

I will email them as you mentioned. Thanks!
