Has anyone applied for a soft power (medical) DTV visa in Tokyo? What was your experience and were you successful? Did you have to visit the embassy or could it be completed all online? I'm currently in Japan on a tourist visa. I have seen some older information stating I require residency, though newer embassy posts seem to just require an entry stamp.

The post inquires about experiences applying for a soft power (medical) DTV visa in Tokyo, specifically whether the process requires an embassy visit or can be completed online. The commenter indicates that residency is no longer required to apply in Japan and suggests using the pre DTV application service provided by the Tokyo Embassy, noting that some recent applicants received 6-month METVs instead.

Residency is no longer required to apply in Japan. I recommend making use of the pre DTV application service, Tokyo Embassy offers to ensure a successful application. A couple of recent applicants were given 6 month METVs instead of the DTV.
