TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can extend your 45-day tourist visa by an additional 30 days at an immigration office in Thailand. The specific rules vary by location; for example, in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, you can apply for the extension when you still have 45 days or less remaining. However, in places like Koh Samui and Jomtien, you typically need to wait until you have only 3 or 4 days left. It's advisable to check with your local immigration office regarding their requirements.

In my experience they donโ€™t like when you come too early. They made an exception in phuket when i told them that Iโ€™ll travel to pak chong and the korat immigration is hard to find ๐Ÿ™

You should have applied for a 90-day visa that makes it a lot easier. You can do that before you travel My wife did it for me She is Thai

You got a 90 days visa because you're married to a Thai national, there's no visa that allows a tourist to stay 90 days.

I used to get a 60 day in my home country and then when I arrived in Thailand would extend it another 30. Not sure if this option is still available

A Tourist Visa is a 60 days on entry so you still need to extend it to get to 90 days. The OP probably does not qualify for a Non-O which gives 90 days on entry.

Visa exempt entry is 45 days (currently) and a Tourist Visa is valid for 90 days but but get stamped in for 60 days. To get stamped in for 90 days you'd need a Non-O Visa or similar, the maximum tourist entry stamp is 60 days.

Depends where you are.

Most offices allow you to go when you have 30 days or less left.

Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket allow you to go when you have 45 days or less left.

Koh Samui and Jomtien only allow you to go on your last week.

you're required to have a TM30 to request an extension in ChiangMai so make sure you get proof of TM30 from your hotel or landlord.

A TM30 can be filed online or in person at your Immigration Office. The fact they have never done it previously wasn't because they didn't have to (they should, within 24 hours is the law) but the fact that you only stayed for 2 weeks so didn't require the services of your Immigration Office.
